Why Facilitation is working for Farming

Kim Stafford at the South West Awards

At Fearless Facilitation we have worked closely with farmers and in particular in the development of facilitation models they have used in knowledge transfer within farming discussion groups to great effect. Facilitation is so relevant to the current challenges and opportunities facing the UK farming industry.

Creating change to create progress

One of the longest standing industries and a significant part of our commercial history and tradition, the farming sector is keen to point out that tradition and progress should be part of the same goal. As Matthew Naylor, Chair of the OFC commented "I love tradition but tradition is best protected by keeping it relevant and helping it to evolve in a natural way."

There is no doubt that farming is facing challenging times – with confidence dented by Brexit and the ensuing uncertainties, along with extreme environmental changes and weather conditions plus the ever present operational and technological challenges pushing the pace of change for farmers.

There are a number of farming groups who have engaged facilitation as a way of facilitating vital knowledge transfer that can help them and others achieve success and adapt quickly.

Issues on the agenda for farming

A number of the issues are longstanding challenges around supply chain and buyer and supplier relationships – plus the broader skill-set needed by future farmers and succession planning for farms and their families. And there are those issues that, though not new, are more recently high on the agenda and frequently in the spotlight including challenges around mental health, isolation and connection for farmers and also opportunities for diversity and inclusion for the benefit of the farming industry.

Fearless Facilitation and Farming

Fearless Facilitation have worked closely with the farming community including farmers, the agricultural bodies and organisations and suppliers, delivering facilitation workshops and models to great effect.
